I had the honor of photographing Jessica in her grandfather's home this weekend. They were best friends, she spent most of her days after school with him. She used to hang out in his workshop with him everyday, she'd hand him tools and see how he built everything. He was also huge into theater - I see so much of him in her. He passed away in September.
I photographed her as she went around his home, which hasn't been touched since he died. His bed is still pulled back the same way he left it, his boots and shirt are still sitting on a stool at the end of the bed, his hairbrush still lays on the dresser just as he left it. I documented her going around his home and workshop while reminiscing. Jessica wore her grandma's old dress that she wore in her mother's wedding. She laughed, cried, and told me some of the most amazing stories.
I never thought the grieving process could be documented but this is the perfect way. You could just feel his presence.
I could post some images from the shoot here, but the slide below really tells the
story.
